Mother praises her sons headteacher for inspirational ‘Extra Homework’ tasks before SATS!

Before his year 6 students are due to sit their SAT tests next week, one headteacher from Marden Bridge Middle School, Mr Newport gave his pupils some words of wisdom about their revision.

Delighted with the letter she received in the post, Eliza Lawson, whose son Josh is a pupil at the school, took to Facebook to share her thoughts.

In her own words, she states that the headteacher Mr Newport “absolutely knocked it out of the park”.

The letter stated that pupils are now in the last couple of days before SATs and the headteacher offered his idea on how children should be spending their weekend.

The letter states: “This is your homework for this weekend. Please complete as many of these activities as possible and tick to say they have been done.”

Mr Newport then listed activities including: smile; spend time with people you love; laugh until your tummy hurts; go outside and enjoy the weather; and do something you have never done before.

Underneath this list he wrote: “If you feel you have to, you may revise BUT you can only do this for a maximum of one hour total.

“Remember – Mr Newport is in charge of worrying – you don’t need to. You are amazing and I could not be more proud of you.”

Within just four days of being posted, Eliza Lawson’s posts has being shared more than 1,300 times.

The mother is urging people to share her post to “show how much we value teachers that see our children as growing people, not numbers on a page.”
