Mum comes up with brilliant set of rules for kids who won’t give her privacy on the toilet

‘Toilet time’ should mean ‘private time’ in every household, but if you’re a mum with young children, you’ll know that ‘private time’ is actually pretty unheard of even when it comes to going to the toilet.

You might find that you’re even locking yourself in the bathroom so you can go to the toilet in peace.

But it seems children don’t care whether you’re in the kitchen or the bathroom – if they want something from you, they’ll ensure they annoy you until they get it – which is exactly what inspired one mother to come up with this glorious set of rules for her children who wouldn’t leave her alone on the toilet.

Shared to the Facebook page Practical Parenting, the rules are incredibly relatable for anyone – mother or father – who has a child who can’t be without them for more than a minute.

The list begins: ‘If mom is in the bathroom, you are not allowed to…’

Before continuing with rules such as: ‘Knock, unless the house is on fire or someone is bleeding and/or dead.

‘Scream questions at me if the shower is running! Hot tip! I can’t hear you!’

And: ‘Wait for me within inches of the door and then yell at me when you get slammed in the face like it’s my fault.’

The rules list was a hit with many parents – as it went on to receive more than 5,000 likes on Facebook and almost 13,000 shares.

Lots of mothers who were able to relate left comments to describe the times their own children had ruined their privacy.

One mother said: ‘This is the reason I don’t bother shutting the door to the bathroom anymore. My two year old can’t seem to be without seeing me for longer than a minute. And honestly, the cats are just as bad.’

Another wrote: ‘Love this! Remember only too well not being able to have a pee in peace – let alone anything else ! Joys of motherhood. It’s a universal problem!’
