New mum pays tribute to her stretch marks in inspirational Instagram posts

Instagram is a hotbed of fit new mums. There they are, two weeks postpartum, working out in little hot pants – lifting their babies or running with prams.

There’s often not an ounce of baby fat, not one sagging boob and no stretch marks in sight.

And that’s because Instagram posts are usually curated and filtered to appear as something they’re not.

We know that, but it can get you down when you’re constantly bombarded with images of women ‘doing better’ than you, especially when you’re a new mum.

That is why one new mum and artist decided to post a tribute to her stretch marks, with the hope of inspiring other new mums to embrace theirs.

Abagail Wedlake has been posting refreshingly honest (and adorable) pictures of her postpartum stretch marks, alongside her 4-month-old daughter, Aubrey.

‘I’ve earned my stripes and am embracing them more and more every day,’ she wrote, accompanied by the hashtags #lovemymombod and #postpartumqueen.

‘Postpartum bodies are different but show the beauty of being given the chance to bring life into this world.’

In another post, she wrote : ‘We give up our bodies to create our children, our bodies change and gain perfect imperfections that we should be celebrating, not shaming.

‘Women are amazingly powerful creatures. Stop the body shaming.’

And it’s a message that is resonating with other mums who have been leaving comments about their own struggles to accept their bodies.

‘Thank you for sharing,’ wrote one.

‘I have almost identical stretch marks as you and seeing this post has made me feel better about myself and my stretch marks.’

Another wrote: ‘Thank you for inspiring me! Your photo gives me the courage to embrace my own body and my stretch marks’.
