A four month old baby boy has died after being attacked by a dog on Thursday afternoon, his 22 month old brother has been left with serious ‘life changing injuries’ and his mother has also been harmed.
The attack was carried out on Tara Close and Harwich Road in Colchester, police were called to the scene and the dog was immediately put down. Police have not yet confirmed the dog’s breed but neighbours described it as a “Staffordshire bull breed”.
The seriously injured baby was taken to Colchester General Hospital and later transferred to a specialist unit following the attack, it has now been confirmed that the baby boy has died from his injuries.
The whole community has been shaken by this tragedy especially as it comes just eight weeks after a previous fatal dog attack, also in Essex, where a three year old boy was bitten by an American bulldog.
Chief Inspector Elliot Judge described the baby’s death and his brother’s injury as a “tragic incident” and said officers were supporting the family.
Essex Police said no arrests had been made so far in connection with the Colchester attack.
The scene remains cordoned off.
