A Mum has taken to Mumsnet to vent her anger after another parent returned the goody bag she gave to her child at a party.
After hosting a sleepover party for her 11-year-old daughter which cost less than £50 to prep, the mother thought it would be a treat to be generous with the party bags.
She stated, “I didn’t know what to do about party bags so instead of little plastic ones I bought some gift bags and made up bags including some pens, a notepad with each of the girls’ initials, a little nail varnish set each, a book, a pair of novelty socks, some sweets and a piece of birthday cake.”
Her daughter also made thank you notes for each bag, which cost around £12.50 each.
Despite this kind gesture, the mother’s daughter returned home from school on Monday with a letter from a parent and a returned goody bag.
The letter stated, that the child’s mother would not let her accept it as it was too generous and she ‘tries too hard’.
Naturally, the mother felt mortified and her daughter was embarrassed. She stated in her mum’s net post, ‘I definitely don’t want to impress her or anyone else! I have been internally fuming since 4 pm yesterday!’ she wrote.
Mumsnet users took to her post to share their opinion with one stating, ‘Sounds very generous and definitely rude to send it back.’
Another said: ‘Jesus, that mum has a chip on her shoulder! ‘Not everyone gets the same party – my daughter has just turned 11 and some of her friends have done no gift bags, some more splashy than others. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid either way!’
